Before co-founding Ruperez International LLC, Rakela worked as an independent international business consultant in Chicago and Washington DC, helping businesses and organizations to identify and enter new markets in diverse industry sectors. Former clients include start-ups, mid-size and established companies in areas such as agriculture, travel and tourism, consumer goods, property development, new technology and biopharmaceuticals, among others.

 

From 2004 to 2009 she was Director of US Institutional and Corporate Relations for the Spanish Law firm Diaz-Bastien y Truan Abogados, in New York City. Her areas of project expertise included renewable energy, high-speed rail, commercial real estate and fashion and retail.

 

Rakela began her career as Executive Aide to Member of Parliament Bob Hicks in the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa. She was a research assistant and speechwriter at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels, Belgium from 1992 to 1993 and a Congressional Aide in the Spanish Congress of Deputies in Madrid from 1997-1999.

 

Rakela holds a BA in Political Science and French Language from the University of Toronto, Canada; an MA in International Relations and European Union Studies from the Instituto Universitario Ortega y Gasset of Madrid, Spain and an MBA in Finance and International Business from Loyola University Chicago‚Äôs Quinlan School of Business.
